About Portuguese Wines

(Click on the map to the right to download) Wine has been made in Portugal for thousands of years and more modern records show wine being exported to England as early as the mid-1300’s. The most famous wine of Portugal is the sweet, fortified wine known as Port, but more recently emphasis has been placed on the production of a wide variety of table wines with distinctive personality.

The best wines from Portugal come from the north of the country where the Douro River flows from Spain to the east out to the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Most Ports and high quality red table wines are a blend of indigenous grapes with Touriga Nacional playing a prominent role in most of them. There are now about a dozen different demarcated zones for the production of high quality wine in Portugal. From Vinho Verde to Port to Madeira we’ve got a modest selection of Portuguese wines that will please your palate and leave your wallet intact!
